Kodomo-no-hi
Kodomo-no-hi (May 5) – also called
tango-no-sekku, is a festival for children and a national holiday.
Families with boys put up koinobori, or carp
streamers, in their garden and a display of dolls called gogatsu ningyo
in a room of the house.
Gogatsu ningyo: The dolls are usually placed on a
stepped dais with three levels. There is a set of samurai armour, a
taiko, or big drum, and other things needed to fight an old-style battle.

The described display on the above photo is presently
to be seen in the Hall of Tokai University European Center in Vedbæk.
