On Friday, 19 March 2010, a workshop on Japanese language education was held at Tokai University European Center. This time around, the focus was on intermediate and advanced level Japanese language education, and based on concrete examples, the discussion revolved around which teaching materials and classroom activities are most effective for reading comprehension classes and classes employing video material.

The workshop was arranged from 1pm to 6pm and the schedule was divided into two sessions. During the first session, a lecture entitled "A Theory of Reading and Planning of Reading Comprehension Classes" was delivered by Associate Professor Akira Kashima of Hirosaki University’s International Exchange Center. The second session offered a lecture entitled "Using Japanese Films In Language Education" by Professor Fusato Taniguchi, Director of Tokai University European Center.

The workshop was advertised at universities, schools and language centers throughout Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia and received considerable response. Even though the date was set for a weekday in the middle of the spring semester, 15 participants registered for the workshop, including teachers from University of Turku, Finland, Stockholm University and Lund University, Sweden. University of Iceland was also represented by a teacher, who had to get up at 4am in order to make the flight to Copenhagen.

Both sessions of the workshop witnessed lively discussions by the highly-motivated participants, many of whom voiced their intention of immediately implementing the discussed teaching techniques in their own classes. Many of the participants also made it clear that they had been waiting for an event such as this workshop to appear and that they would like to see it held regularly, henceforth.

Here at Tokai University European Center we intend to continue arranging academic activities at regular intervals in the future and to offer Japanese language teachers from around Scandinavia the opportunity to assemble and exchange information and experiences.

日本語教育ワークショップを開催

　東海大学ヨーロッパ学術センター（ＴＵＥＣ）では、去る３月19日（金）に日本語教育ワークショップを開催しました。今回は中・上級の日本語クラスに焦点を当て、読解授業と映像を用いた授業についてどのような教材、クラス活動が効果的か、具体的な事例をもとに検討することにしました。

　コペンハーゲン大学をはじめとするデンマーク国内の大学や北欧各国の教育機関にご案内したところ多くの問い合わせをいただき、こちらでは春学期の最中で週日であったにもかかわらず、15名の皆様の参加をいただきました。アイスランド大学から参加してくださった先生は、朝の４時に起きて飛行機に間に合わせたとのこと。フィンランドのトゥルク大学、スウェーデンのストックホルム大学、ルンド大学など、それぞれ時間のやり繰りをして遠方から参加してくださいました。

　午後１時から６時まで、両セッションとも先生方の意欲的な参加により活発な議論が交わされ、今回のワークショップは一定の成果を収めることができました。早速ご自分の授業に取り入れたいなどという反響があり、多くの参加者からこのような催しを待っていた、これからも続けて欲しいとの声をいただきました。
