Concept:
2017 marks 150 years of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Japan. It is also the 75-year milestone for Tokai University founded in 1942. In celebration of both anniversaries, The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and Tokai University (Japan) join forces to collaborate on an anniversary symposium focused on sustainable development.
The ongoing transition towards sustainable energy societies requires continued commitment, cooperation and innovation. In both Denmark and Japan, determination to realize this transition is evident, and ambitious nationals goal have been set. Denmark plans to phase out fossil fuels by 2050, and Japan will reduce greenhouse gas emissions considerably by 2030. However, post-Fukushima Japan serves as a poignant reminder of the difficult balance between energy security, economic efficiency and environmental protection, an issue which goes hand in hand with sustainable development anywhere.
For a sustainable transition to succeed, many aspects need to be constantly addressed. The symposium builds on prior energy seminar collaboration between DTU and Tokai and seeks to bring together Japanese and Danish visionaries and resource persons for a discussion of approaches and specific technologies, along with a debate on current and future challenges.
