TUEC hosted Nursing Student Study Group

9/8/2017

Picture
A study group of 22 nursing students from Tokai University Junior College of Nursing and Medical Technology visited Denmark from August 14-27. The purpose of the study tour was for the students to deepen their knowledge and understanding of education and nursing in Denmark, thereby enabling them to reflect on their own education and future in the nursing profession. With TUEC as their base the group spent the first week in the Copenhagen area learning about Danish health, welfare and education culture. For this purpose TUEC had arranged visits to a hospital, the Danish Nurses’ Organization, a care facility for the elderly, a folk high school, the Danish Medical Association and last but not least to a forest kindergarten. The second week saw the group in Silkeborg and Horsens (Jutland) where the program was organized in cooperation with VIA University College. During this week, the students were able to observe nurses working at a hospital and in home care, and to meet with Danish nursing students at VIA for discussing and reflecting on nursing and education in both countries.

ENERGY SYMPOSIUM - Energy Transitions & Energy Technologies: Moving towards sustainable futures in Denmark and Japan

Date: 22 November 2017
Venue: DTU Lyngby Campus

2017 marks 150 years of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Japan. It is also the 75-year milestone for Tokai University founded in 1942. In celebration of both anniversaries, The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and Tokai University (Japan) join forces to collaborate on an anniversary symposium focused on sustainable development.

The ongoing transition towards sustainable energy societies requires continued commitment, cooperation and innovation. In both Denmark and Japan, determination to realize this transition is evident, and ambitious nationals goal have been set. Denmark plans to phase out fossil fuels by 2050, and Japan will reduce greenhouse gas emissions considerably by 2030. However, post-Fukushima Japan serves as a poignant reminder of the difficult balance between energy security, economic efficiency and environmental protection, an issue which goes hand in hand with sustainable development anywhere.

For a sustainable transition to succeed, many aspects need to be constantly addressed. The symposium builds on prior energy seminar collaboration between DTU and Tokai and seeks to bring together Japanese and Danish visionaries and resource persons for a discussion of approaches and specific technologies, along with a debate on current and future challenges.

Lecture Series 2015

11/23/2015

Picture
On 23 November 2015, Tokai University European Center (TUEC) hosted a lecture on economic reform and team dynamics in Japan. The invited speaker was Associate Professor Lisbeth Clausen of Copenhagen Business School.
The theme of the talk was team dynamics and diversity management, and the effects of economic and political reforms on these. Assoc. Prof. Lisbeth Clausen discussed this theme based on her recent study of multinational corporations in Japan; a study which was published in book form as Team Dynamics and Diversity: Japanese Corporate Experiences in the spring of 2015.
The lecture discussed Tokyo based corporations as providing a useful platform for studying the Japanese government’s recent initiatives of including international talent and not least the female workforce, ‘womenomics’, as assets in the Japanese drive for economic progress. A one-year study of teams in multinationals in Tokyo provides examples about collaboration between traditionally Japanese ways and international corporations that bring in new inspiration and act as catalysts of change. The participating corporations in the study were Bang & Olufsen, Ecco, Coloplast, Novo Nordisk, Microsoft, Sony and Huawei.
