Culture Day 2023 - June 18th, 13:00 - 16:00
We are happy to announce our annual Culture Day, this year on June 18th, from 13:00 - 16:00.
We have created an exciting program for all of you, to experience Japanese culture in our lovely facilities in Vedbæk, Denmark.
All of the workshops and other attractions are open for you to join at any time from 13:00 - 16:00!
The only thing on the program that has a set time, is the Kyudo performance, which will begin at 13:30 in the front garden.
The tea ceremonies are also held at specific times. You will recieve an email with more information once registered. For further details on this, check the sections below about the Japanese Tea Ceremony.

HaikuPå Japan-dagen 2023 kan du i konferencerummet møde medlemmer af Haikugruppen i Dansk Forfatterforening, der vil introducere en af verdens korteste digtformer, haiku. Her kan du lære om, hvad et haiku er, prøve at skrive dit eget haiku og vinde en præmie for dagens bedste digt. Du kan købe haikusamlinger, både medlemmernes egne haikusamlinger og gruppens to jubilæumsantologier samt det nye tidsskrift ”Guldsmeden”.

Japanese CalligraphyMartin Chrestensen will offer insights into the world of Japanese calligraphy in his workshop on June 18th. Come and try out calligraphy for yourself, or admire the art created by Martin.

Waku WakuWaku Waku - The Online Japanese Supermarket that we all love is coming to Culture Day this year!
We're very happy to inform you that Waku Waku will have a pop-up shop at our Center on June the 18th! Here you can buy some of their wonderful Japanese goods, snacks and beverages. Bonsai v. Dansk Bonsai Selskab og Bonsai MurinOplev de smukke Bonsai træer og lær om den flere hundrede år gamle teknik der ligger bag, når Dansk Bonsai Selskab og Bonsai Murin præsenterer deres Bonsai på centret d. 18. juni!

KyudoKom forbi til kulturdagen og oplev en opvisning af ægte traditionel japansk bueskydning, også kaldet Kyudo, fremvist af det danske Kyudo forbund Kyudojo Seishinkan. Kyudo-opvisningen finder sted kl. 13.30 i centrets forhave. Herefter vil det være muligt at snakke med klubbens medlemmer, og høre mere om deres aktiviteter. Kyudo forbundets hjemmeside |
CosplayOn Culture Day there will be Cosplayers and Pop Culture Artists, showing off their cosplays, crafts and artworks! All of the cosplayers will come in their own homemade cosplays, and will gladly answer your questions about how their cosplays were made, and how the characters they’re cosplaying have inspired them. It will also be possible for you to buy homemade and secondhand cosplay costumes and accessories, as one of the cosplayers will be selling those! In addition to cosplay, many fans of Japanese Pop Culture, especially fans of Manga and Anime, also make their own artworks and merchandise. They create anything you can imagine being made with inspiration from Japanese Pop Culture, from manga-inspired drawings to self-made plushies or small figures. For the Culture Day, there will be three booths, where you can purchase plenty of Japanese Pop Culture Artworks in various forms! |
Japanese Tea CeremonyExperience an authentic Japanese tea ceremony with ceremonial green matcha tea in the European Center's Japanese tea pavilion, "Bosei-tei".

WasaiWhat is ”和裁ーWASAI”? The sewing of Japanese clothes (Kimono) is called "WASAI". And the technicians are called "和裁士-WASAISHI". Basically, kimonos are sewn by hand without relying on machines. There will be an exhibition of the authentic tools actually used to make kimonos and you can see and try traditional hand sewing on June 18th. Experience traditional techniques! Manami Kato 1st class certified Kimono tailor. Those who have obtained Level 1 of this qualification have earned a high reputation in the industry and are nationally recognized qualified persons who have passed an examination that certifies the higher level of knowledge and skills for tailoring kimono. |

IO - Japanese teaGood news: IO will have a pop-up shop on our annual Culture Day on June 18th! The company specializes in selling organic and naturally farmed Japanese tea, sourced directly from the tea farmers. This means that they can secure a very high quality of tea, cultivated without the use of pesticides and artificial fertilizers. IO also focuses on small-scale tea productions, and they make sure that the tea producers are being paid a fair price for their work. At Culture Day, IO will bring a selection of their delicious tea, which you’ll be able to purchase at their pop-up shop at our Center! Kimono Klub DanmarkWe are very delighted to tell you that Klub Kimono Danmark will also be coming to Culture Day this year! A few of the club members are coming to the Centre, and will be wearing their beautiful kimonos for us all to see. They will also be bringing some yukatas and obi sandals (traditional Japanese Summer Clothing), and you’ll have the chance to try these on for a short while. You may also take some pictures wearing the yukatas, and if the weather is nice, this can be done outdoors as well! |
Japanese Street FashionOn Culture Day there will be a booth where two fans of Japanese Street Fashion will be selling some secondhand Japanese Street Fashion items! Some of the items might be from Japanese Fashion brands, and others might just be perfect to use for specific Japanese Street Fashion Styles. They’ll gladly explain more about the different styles and substyles, if you’re interested in knowing more about them, so come by their booth to learn more about Japanese Street Fashion! |
Creative Childrens AreaFor the Culture Day there will be a cozy area, where children can unleash their creativity through playing fun games together, making puzzles and drawing to their heart's content! They will also be able to explore the traditional Japanese paper folding technique known as origami, whereby they can create a plethora of different sculptures of any imaginable thing! |
Dansk-Japansk SelskabWe are thrilled that Dansk - Japansk Selskab (The Danish - Japanese Association) also will be coming to our Culture Day! They will be having their own booth, where you can hear more about their association, which promotes the cultural relationship between Denmark and Japan. At their booth they’ll also be selling fresh beverages for you to buy and drink, so make sure to swing by their booth! |
